Pearl Jordan on the Fear of Public Speaking

“Is it possible there could be so much change after only one session?”

The proof was in the pudding.

After one session on public speaking this client had moved from being comfortable in only small group speaking situations to addressing a larger group with surprising ease, despite the fears niggling inside.

“How is it possible?” she asked again.

The thing is, fear of public speaking is huge. Pre-pandemic it was higher up the list of fears than death. It’s scary because we have a focus on the outside looking in, mainly seeking outside approval. There’s a huge market on the do’s and don’ts with a plethora of rules, some count, some don’t. And contexts vary incredibly from those who are on stage to the woman in a meeting too scared to speak up.

So why the quick change?

As you’re on this website, I’m guessing you’re aware that having you live life in truth is my driver, my number one value, or motto even.

The reason why the quick change is that this too drives my public speaking methods.

Pearl Jordan helps you to get back to your truth.

You begin to tune into your ‘bigger picture’, what’s important to you, and why you wish to share.

You release the truth of your authentic voice.

Begin to trust your unique expression.

You return to a place of happiness and the joys of sharing that beautiful, benevolent voice of yours.

Then as if by magic, your previous limiting beliefs start to dissipate and you find yourself in a space of complete vocal courage.

Enough to feel the fears, (now of a healthier kind), and do it anyway.

Your voice. Your way.

Fear of public speaking? What’s that? ☺

The Magic of Joy – Accessing Your Core of Joy

In March 2023, Pearl Jordan was invited to co-facilitate a session called The Magic of Joy – accessing your core of joy, which is always part of you, even when things don’t feel okay.

It was a wonderfully received session and extra joyful for Pearl as she delivered the talk with her very dear friend, Masana De Souza.

They explored many themes, including:

  • Joy as your birthright
  • Joy and the essence of you
  • Joy stealers such as fears, and how they pull you away
  • The Drama of Life is accurate
  • There are little gifts of joy 24/7
  • The dark night of the soul
  • How do you re-emerge into the Light
  • Choice – You always have a choice, what thoughts do you choose to focus on?

And of course, Pearl used music and movement to inspire a holistic release of joy in mind, body and soul, starting with a favourite quote:

‘The sole aim of movement should be joy and flowing energy.

Movement makes energy start to flow.

Flowing energy loosens blockages in the body, head and heart.

Loosened blockages release joy and strength.

Released joy helps us to stay healthy or get healthy – throughout body, mind and soul.

Stiffening is the basis of death, movement the basis of life

Taken from the book, Moon Time, by Johanna Paungger & Thomas Poppe.

With simple prompts the room suddenly became full of joy and playfulness and through this physical release, deep and insightful conversations were to be had. Love it!

They also shared stories.

And Pearl shared hers, through a chapter of her soon to be published book.

This was the first time Pearl had shared any of her writing in a public domain.

Here is an excerpt for you to enjoy:

Today I danced with the smell of fear

Today I allowed myself (very much unwillingly) to go to a space of such deep-rooted fear, resistance and ugliness, such darkness that I thought I might combust if I dared…

That’s if I dared…

Tears streaming, blubbering, ugly cry tears, a cascading flow of childhood fears, anger, unworthiness, undeserving, unlovable tears.

Dare I? Don’t I? Go there?

Dare I? Don’t I show up here?

Uncontrollable, a force so strong, gut wretched, twisted, and mangled, can I? Can I dare..?

Every pore releasing from roots deep within my soul womb.

Stomach cramping, my body revolting, a reminder of my youthful monthly cycle tears…

Old parts shedding,

Bleeding

The past releasing

Shifting…

Rotten, unrecognisable fears…

Dancing a tango so closely, at one with the smell of… death, it feels so…

I don’t think I will survive.

Useless, waste of space, who am I kidding, dark, dark despair.

I hear a glutaral cry rooted as if from depths of the earth.

Gravel sobbing

And then….

And then… Sunset.

As if by magic, the most beautiful sunset ever seen in Willesden Green.

I stop, squint and stare through a haze of tears, perplexed at its wonder, it’s drawing me hypnotically near…

Pearl Jordan’s Transformational Book ‘Book-Baby’ – Coming Soon!

During the pandemic an opportunity to join a Writing Mastermind presented itself. It made me sweat.

For years I’d carried deep rooted fears of not being a good enough writer.

Studies, School , Degree, Homeopathy, all continued to buy into the story that my putting pen to paper wasn’t great. I felt inadequate, and that my ‘background’ – Caribbean, working class, slow at reading, little interest in reading books, hadn’t served me well. And worst still, I’d grown to believe it.

On the other hand, I excelled in all things practical. I had an ‘on-the-job’ skill that allowed for me to shine; Teaching, Training, Creating, Directing Shows, MC-ing, Speaking Events, Coaching… If I was in the presence of people and able to engage and communicate freely, there was no stopping me.

So when Nicola Humber tagged me in a message about a Writing Mastermind, I felt a jolt within. Fear started to rise and all the old stuff started to resurface.  I could feel myself shaking at the thought of me daring to join a writing group. Could I? Dare I? My response to a simple writing invitation really surprised me and I knew it was time to do something about it.

So with heart palpitating, nausea building, panic rising, I joined the Unbound Writing Mastermind. And I have never looked back.

Susan Jeffers writes, ‘Feel the Fear and Do It Anyway’ and I am SO glad that I did. Joining the Unbound group of women and being guided by the magical Nicola has been one of the most life-changing moments ever. The imperfectly perfect remedy to my healing, my souls healing, the transformation of such deep writing wounds.

Here in the Unbound space, no rules rule. There is no right or wrong, there is simply what is yours. Your truth, your way, your unique creative expression, your self-trust, your daring to believe.

Halleluyah!

And today here I am, where I get goose bumps and feel so much joyful energy, grabbing pen and paper at every opportunity to create on that blank page. This is huge and has released the trappings and shackles I have carried for decades.

If only I knew then what I know now. It wasn’t that I was unable to ‘write’ it was that the circumstances and rules clipped my wings and didn’t allow for the freedom of self-expression that serves me.

I am an incredibly creative individual, with an innovative way of seeing and interpreting things. When someone tells me there is only one way, I start to freak out.

Place rules before I can begin to flap my wings and my brain freezes, my confidence wains, and I retreat. Fuzzy thinking ensues and the rest is history.

I think this is linked to me being locked into early year fears around failure and wanting outside approval, but that’s another story.

Today, I am celebrating. I am skipping and dancing and exhaling through the joy of writing my book. Yes. Pearl Jordan is to be an author.  Pearl is a writer. Would you ‘Adam and Eve it’ Believe it? Woo hoo!

I am in the process of pulling together my affectionately called ‘Book-Baby’. She is soon to be born, a transformational book full of personal stories, poetry, one liners, reflections and much more. She is certainly not dancing to anyone else’s tune. She surprises me all the time and we work so well together providing I allow her, her freedom, to show up however she chooses. No rules, rule.

Points for your reflection…

What old stories are you hanging onto?

What would it take for you to let go?

Dare you feel the fear and do it anyway?

What is your unique rhythm, your way of showing up?

Are you ready to dance your dance your way?

If your creative expression was to take a leap of faith, where would you land?

Go on. Jump to the beat of your own drum!

The Coaching Dance to Wellness on the AC Podcast Channel

What a joy and honour it was to share my story with Maxine Bell, creator of The Association for Coaching Podcast Channel.

I loved having this conversation because Maxine is such a generous interviewer and made it so easy for me to put ‘me’ and The Rhythmic Remedy® into context for a wider audience. And to be able to share how movement and dance plays a role in the coaching experience, what more could I ask for…?

I hope my story inspires others to keep on going with tenacity and resilience despite the obstacles and challenges of life.  Based on the responses I received, I know it already has!

Enjoy!

Well-being and Wellness, a Mind-Body Approach to Healthy Living

If ever there was a time for more well-being and wellness conversations, it was during the Pandemic. Here I presented Body-Wise, a Mind-Body Approach to Healthy Living, as part of the Healing Our Earth Global Series, speaking on the mind-body connection and how different people deal with anxiety differently.

Understanding the mind-body connection helps at so many levels with health and well-being, in identifying the different symptoms of anxiety brewing underneath and thinking about what can be done about it.

‘Dance feeds my soul’ Pearl Jordan shares the Rhythmic Remedy® story

From a very early age I loved to dance to the rhythmic beat of music. I felt alive with tingles, joy and energy! When I felt depressed, I watched the musical West Side Story, sometimes skipping straight to the dance numbers, knowing that by the end, I would feel great and wonder what I was depressed about in the first place.

When I trained within the Complementary Health field, I felt the same West Side Story tingles. I had found another passion – a new way of tapping into the energy and enthusiasm of life. When I shared my complementary expertise, helping clients to take responsibility for their health and wellbeing and take charge of ‘their own rhythm’, I again witnessed profound change, and I knew I had hit on something very powerful. TRANSFORMATION.

But and there is a hugeBUT‘… along the way, I decided to let go of dance.

I made the decision to move away from the career I had built over decades.

I was in a new cycle of my life (and in full flow of the perimenopause) and I wanted to know what newness this new cycle could bring.

What I wasn’t expecting however was the sadness and depression that followed. A year of listlessness, apathy and feeling completely lost.

Thankfully, with professional support from my homeopath and coach, I was able to see this for what it was. A time of transition, grief for what was, and the biggest ‘aha’ of all, was the fact that DANCE FEEDS MY SOUL.

I had effectively let go of my soul food!

Once this was clear, I deep-dived and explored how I could reintroduce movement and dance into my life and create a partnership between the old and the new.

And that’s when innovation kicked in and the Rhythmic Remedy® was born.

I was able to reframe my extensive dance experiences and use the vocabulary of dance in a way that allowed me to create conditions for transformation. Wow…

I have the ability to transform the negative into the positive, sadness into happiness, confusion into clarity through a unique combination of movement, dance, performance, coaching, complementary health and wellbeing: a unique fusion that brings personal and professional positive change in all areas. Well, I never!

To you the reader, should you be offbeat in any way, I wish you a quick step into finding your rhythm and I invite you to discover the Rhythmic Remedy® by Getting In Touch NOW!
